UP CLOSE WITH MUSIC celebrating 35 years of Concorde
Concorde contemporary music ensemble present the first in their new concert series in galleries: up close with music, in the Rubicon Gallery, Stephen's Green, Dublin on Sunday 13 November. Celebrating 35 years of continuous work nurturing the creation of new music through commissions, performances, broadcasts and recordings, Concorde will feature new work alongside highlights from their extensive repertoire. In addition, the series honours American composer Elliott Carter at 102, who has been described as ‘America’s great musical poet.’
Each event will include three diverse musical programmes, at 2 pm, 3 pm & 4 pm, with a chance to meet composers and performers during the intervals. On November 13 the programme features a commissioned work from Dave Flynn for flute and bass clarinet. Dave is making a mark internationally as one of the few composers today working with elements of traditional Irish music and combining these with contemporary classical music thought and improvisation.
Also featured are works by Irish composers Donal Rafferty, Judith Ring, Alyson Barber, Jane O’Leary, Ailís Ní Ríain, Ed Bennett, Deirdre McKay and James Wilson, Dutch composer Ton Bruynel and Elliott Carter’s duo ‘Esprit Rude/Esprit Doux’ for flute and clarinet.
Admission is free and the series is supported by a Music Project Award from the Arts Council.
