An electroacoustic piece by Ailis Ni Riain has been specially commissioned for a telephone kiosk in Manchester.
Conversations We Wish We'd Had is a newly commissioned electroacoustic sound installation by Ailís Ní Ríain for an old fashioned K6 telephone Kiosk. The kiosks are ranked amongst the British public’s top ten 20th century design icons and there are only five K6 telephone kiosks in City Centre Manchester.
Commissioned by Manchester Modernist Society for the FutureEverything Festival in Manchester from 12-23rd May 2010, the project has been supported by Arts Council England.
Venue: K6 Telephone Kiosk, in the Courtyard, Museum of Science and Industry, Lower Byrom Street, Central Manchester. Enter via the main gates, turn to your left, the kiosk is outside the Power Hall and is fully accessible.
Walks: The Manchester Kiosks Walking Tour, May 13 – 15, 2.00pm.Central library to MOSI.
Starting each day at the Central Library Steps, the walks trace the route between the city’s four remaining K6 phone kiosks with the MMS as your guide, leading to the MOSI kiosk & its temporary sound installation by Ailis Ni Riain.
Ailis has been selected to take part in the PRS Foundation for Music's New Music Plus Producers scheme.
