Supported and administered by The Association of Irish Composers in association with the Contemporary Music Centre, the annual residency takes place from 4–17 July as part of the soundSCAPE Festival, a contemporary music festival and summer school in Maccagno, Italy.

Cellist Kate Ellis will curate and perform a concert of contemporary Irish cello music and give a masterclass on the works featured, while also contributing to the festival’s regular composition colloquia. Her programme will include works by Irish composers Ed Bennett, Adrian Hart, Judith Ring, Emma O'Halloran, David Fennessy, and Linda Buckley.

“It’s brilliant to have the opportunity to perform at soundSCAPE and showcase some beautiful new works from Irish composers to an international audience,” says Ellis, who was selected for the residency following an open call for applications.

Now in it’s second year, the residency is administered by Peter Moran, secretary of the AIC, who has a long-standing relationship with soundSCAPE. “I always loved being involved with the soundSCAPE Festival. It is a beautiful setting to work in, and there is a great sense of community among the faculty and students alike, which builds lasting artistic relationships.”

Director of the CMC, Evonne Ferguson, added: “Kate Ellis, is a true ambassador of Irish contemporary music. Having commissioned and performed so many works from Irish composers, CMC is delighted that she will curate a concert of works by Irish composers at the soundSCAPE Festival 2014.”
