Crash Ensemble announces Kate Ellis as Co-Artistic Director

Kate Ellis, Crash Ensemble’s cellist of ten years, will take the position as Co-Artistic Director of the ensemble from May 2012.

Kate is a prominent figure on the music scene in Ireland, working as an established soloist, chamber musician and curator. She performs with Crash Ensemble, Gavin Friday, Tarab (fusing elements of Mediterranean music, jazz and Irish traditional music) and Yurodny (performing contemporary interpretations and new works inspired by traditional music from Eastern Europe). In 2012, with a new project entitled Resound, Kate will bring together the creative talents of six diverse musicians, two visual artists and a poet.

 Kate is co-founder and co-curator of the monthly music salon, ‘Kaleidoscope Night’. Kaleidoscope offers innovative and imaginative programming of a diverse range of music from ancient to contemporary and experimental in a relaxed, intimate and beautiful setting.

In July 2011 Kate became musician-in-residence at the Cork Opera House, working as co-curator of the Reich Effect, a festival marking the 75th year of Pulitzer Prize-winner Steve Reich.

Donnacha Dennehy, Crash Ensemble’s founder will take up the position of Global Scholar at Princeton University for 18 months in September, and he will remain as Co-Artistic Director of the ensemble.
