Victoria Symphony New Music Festival features Gerald Barry

The Victoria Symphony's New Music Festival in Canada will this year focus on the work of Irish composer Gerald Barry. This will, according to the orchestra, be the first full feature festival based on the composer in North America.

The New Music Festival is an annual event that celebrates the work of a different featured iconic composer each year, including John Cage and Gyorgy Ligeti in recent years. The festival will last four days and will feature a number of orchestral and chamber works by Barry, performed by the Victoria Symphony themselves, as well as Vox Humana, the Emily Carr String Quartet and Uviv Sonic Lab. The composer will be in attendance throughout the festival. One concert will also feature a work by Irish composer Andrew Hamilton, called Everything is Ridiculous, while the weekend is also full of works by Canadian composers.
