BCMG APPOINTS SEÁN CLANCY AS BCMG/SAM APPRENTICE COMPOSER-IN-RESIDENCE

Birmingham Contemporary Music Group has appointed Seán Clancy as BCMG/SAM Apprentice Composer-in-Residence for 2011.  The prolific 27 year-old Dublin-born composer is currently a PhD student at Birmingham Conservatoire. During the year Seán will spend time working with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG) and contributing to the life of the ensemble. He will gain a unique insight into the way BCMG works by attending performances, rehearsals and workshops.

Seán will also write two works for BCMG: the first - a short percussion solo, entitled Rückstände, to be performed on March 24 & 25, 2011 in two concerts featuring works by Iannis Xenakis, Howard Skempton, Philip Cashian and Tansy Davies; the second a chamber-scale work for a larger BCMG ensemble to be premiered at the end of his residency in late 2011/early 2012.
