A new year and a new night for Kaleidoscope. It all begins with Trombones.

It’s a new year and a new day for Kaleidoscope Night. Make sure to mark it in your diary for 2011,  Kaleidoscope Night has moved to the first Wednesday of every month. The first Kaleidoscope of 2011 will be another exciting and eclectic night of amazing music and stunning performances with a European premiere, some rarely heard Beethoven and the best of new Irish composition.

The evening will begin with four of Ireland‘s top trombonists who are coming together to perform some little known arrangements of rarely heard works – Bruckner’s beautiful motet “Christus Factus Est” in D minor and Beethoven’s set of three miniatures for trombone quartet. The brilliant exponent of the electric keyboard, Justin Carroll will showcase his improvisatory talents on his classic Fender Rhodes keyboard with a mixture of retro sounds and completely new material.

Kaleidoscope Night are delighted to present husband and wife trumpet duo, Andrea Vonk and Simon Menin in the European premiere of former Eastman School of Music horn professor Verne Reynold’s “Calls and Echoes”. Jenny Robinson on recorder is joined by a quartet of viol players to bring us music from the 16th century in the form of Holbome’s “The Cradle” and appropriately, “The New Year’s Gift”.

To end the night, the wonderful traditional musician, Niall Vallely, best known as one of Ireland’s most celebrated concertina players, joins with a string quintet to perform a special version of his own acclaimed composition “The Red Tree”.

As always the Kaleidoscope night takes place at The Odessa Club, (13 Dame Court, Dublin 2) but now on the first Wednesday of each month.
