Derek Ball workshop opera performance

Composer Derek Ball presents scenes from his chamber opera Síle an tSléibhe in an unstaged workshop performance at The Back Loft, Dublin, on Tuesday, 4 September.

The recently completed piece is a story of love, loss and madness featuring an Irish text by the Donegal poet Cathal Ó Searcaigh. The drama is related by a solo soprano – Elizabeth Hilliard - accompanied by a trio of tin whistles and electroacoustic sound. The excerpts will be introduced by the composer, putting the story into context and talking about his music.
