Donegal Public Art presents new theatre piece by Vincent Kennedy based on The Happy Prince.
Irish composer Vincent Kennedy has teamed up with playwright and actor Little John Nee for an adaptation of the Oscar Wilde story The Happy Prince. The Happy Prince has been subject to a number of adaptations in the past, but this theatre production promises to be a unique coming together of art, storytelling and music, all inspired and drawn together by Donegal. Kennedy has been involved with composing for films and television for many years, and so his compositional style will convert well to the stage for this production. He worked very closely with Little John on all aspects of the work, from script to stage, and as well as conducting the orchestra and choir, Kennedy, a trumpet player, will also perform.
The Happy Prince was commissioned by Donegal County Council Public Art and is presented in association with Co. Donegal VEC Music Education Partnership. It will feature the Donegal Youth Orchestra and Donegal Youth Choir and forms part of the Donegal Gathering 2012. The production will receive two performances in both An Grianan Theatre in Letterkenny on April 14th at 7pm and 15th at 3pm and The Abbey Centre in Ballyshannon on the 21st of April (3pm and 7pm).
