CMC and DIPC host an open-Masterclass on the RTE lyric fm Irish commissions for the competition

The Dublin International Piano Competition (DIPC) and the Contemporary Music Centre (CMC) in partnership with the Royal Irish Academy of Music are hosting an open master-class on the three commissioned Irish works for this year's Dublin International Piano Competition. These works are commissioned by RTÉ lyric fm for the DIPC. This event is open to the public and all aspiring DIPC future competitors!

As part of the DIPC Irish Competitors’ Educational Programme, the three selected Irish entrants in the competition will have a chance to perform their chosen work and receive feedback from Irish pianist, Conor Linehan and the three Irish composers commissioned: Breffni O’Byrne (left), Eibhlís Farrell, and Martin O’Leary, who are each represented by the CMC.

This is the first time in the competition’s history that such an opportunity has been available to the Irish competitors. Conor’s experience as a pianist, teacher and past competitor will ensure that the three entrants will gain a greater insight into performing new works.  The presence of the composers will further enhance the three young pianists’ understanding of the works.

Maire Carroll will perform Breffni O'Byrne’s Rhapsody, Nadene Fiorentini will play Eibhlís Farrell’s commission, Gleann na Sídhe, (The Fairy Glen) and Benjamin Shaffrey has chosen Martin O'Leary’s piece, Blue Toccata.
