Paul Roe 'On Clarinet' at TCD

Clarinettist Paul Roe will give a lecture-recital at Trinity College Music Composition Centre on 16 October.

The Music Composition Centre (MCC) hosts regular talks and recitals from composers and performers about new music and issues that surround it. Paul's recital, the third in the MCC's new Agora Series, explores the current Irish repertoire for solo clarinet in a programme chosen especially by the performer to showcase the best in Irish composition. Taking place at 6.30pm in the Boydell Room in House 5, TCD, his chosen programme includes music by Judith Ring, Grainne Mulvey, Rob Canning, Jane O'Leary, Frank Lyons, Elaine Agnew, Amanda Feery and Ed Bennett.

Paul's lecture-recital also forms the first event in a new series presented by the Association of Irish Composers. The series, under an umbrella title of The Irish Canon, will feature a range of events that focus on solo performers and Irish repertoire. The performers have chosen works they feel represent the best in the contemporary repertoire or their instrument by Irish composers, to be performed across the country over the coming year. Performers include Paul Roe, William Dowdall (flutes), Kate Ellis (cello), Michelle O'Rourke (voice), Cora Venus Lunny (violin), David Bremner (organ) and Isabelle O'Connell (piano). Further dates in the series will be announced in the coming weeks.
