RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra to premiere new Violin Concerto by Frank Corcoran
Songs in the Key of Life and Loss is a concert that brings together ‘song-like’ orchestral music, balancing the massive Rachmaninov Symphony No. 2 with shorter works by Arvo Part and Frank Corcoran, including a new Violin Concerto by the Irish composer.
Corcoran has described his own seventeen-minute Violin Concerto as ‘taut, lean, lyrical, leppin’, and ‘fiddling fun, violinistic seriousness and art’s sorrow, and fast, furious, last orchestral thoughts.’ The concerto will be performed by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra’s leader Alan Smale, conducted by Christopher Warren-Green.
The concert takes place at the National Concert Hall on Friday, 2 November 2012 at 8:00pm. The composer will give a talk about his music, presented by conductor Colman Pearce, ahead of the concert.
