Karen Power to exhibit collaborative art and sound work in Korea
Karen Power travels to Korea this September for an interactive art and sound collaboration with video artist Sungpil Han and technician Jinuk Baek.
Power was the recipient of an Arts Council Bursary this year to pursue cross-arts collaborative practice, exploring collaboration as a creative method. Her work will include collaborative projects with four artists, of which Sungpil Han is one, all met during her Arctic Circle residency in 2013. The composer says, “For me the success of a collaboration is evident in work which is uniquely achieved through any one partnership. It is as much about recognising chance in ones process through someone else's approach and this for me is heightened further when there is more than one art form involved.”
This particular collaborative project has been selected to be one of five exhibited at the 12th Korean International Art Fair in Seoul. Power will have two short interactive pieces exhibited, based on Arctic and Antarctic materials, involving specially designed soundscapes that will be fused with interactive videos so that layers of sound will be altered depending on where you are in the room.
Karen Power’s visit to take part in KIAF is funded by the Irish Korean Embassy. For more information on the Fair, visit www.kiaf.org.
