Ian Wilson has a number of performances during September and October

Monica Germino Monica Germino

The performances take place in Ireland, the US and the Netherlands and include three world premieres of new works.

On 17 September, a new version of his work from 2005 red over black for flute, oboe and piano will be premiered at the Arts Club, London. Later in the month on the 23rd, his third violin concerto, Sullen Earth, also composed in 2005, will be performed by Irish violinist Ioana Petcu-Colan and the Ulster Orchestra and conductor David Brophy at the Ulster Hall, Belfast.

October sees the premiere of three new works. Arnkell-lág (2014), a commission from Wicklow County Arts Office for brass band, will be performed by the Arklow Silver Band on 11 October at the Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray.

Meanwhile Camerata Pacifica will premiere Wilson’s Three songs of home (2014) on 10 October in Hahn Hall, Santa Barbara, California. The work was written as a gift for Camerata Pacifica’s 25th anniversary season and will also be performed in Ventura, Passadena, and Los Angeles on 12, 14 and 16 October.

Finally Dutch-based American violinist Monica Germino will premiere the composer’s work for singing violinist, Six Twenty-five a.m. (2013). The piece uses text by Irish poet Tony Curtis, from which it takes its title. Ian Wilson writes of the work:

"Tony’s poem 'Six Twenty-five a.m.' is so evocative and yet straightforward in its use of language and in its discussion of weighty themes that I felt it would work well in this new context. I’ve written quite a playable work for violin, complicated to a certain degree by the fact that the soloist has to sing while playing, but it’s all workable. An added layer will come in concert when Monica’s long-time collaborator, sound engineer Frank van der Weij, will add live electronics to her performance."

Six Twenty-five a.m. will be performed at the Sounds of Music Festival in Groningen, Netherlands on 25 October.
