The Irish Music Rights Organisation are hosting two events of interest to new media composers.

IMRO is running two events for composers with interest in new media composition. The first is a panel discussion in association with the John Ford Ireland Film Symposium, a festival of Irish film and television that honours the influential director John Ford. The discussion will focus on the concerns of producing music for the screen from a composer’s perspective. On the panel will be Kyle Eastwood, an American jazz musician, whose film credits include Million Dollar Baby and Grand Torino, and Christopher Caliendo, a composer and musician whose oeuvre includes over 500 compositions, including an award-winning score for a DVD of John Ford’s The Iron Horse. The panel discussion will take place on the 9 June at 4pm at Project Arts Centre, 39 East Essex Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2.

The other event is the second Composing for Games Module by Games Music Ireland and Windmill Lane Recording Studios. This is a three-day course that covers both theoretical and practical aspects of writing music for video games, the first of which took place last March. As part of the course, participants will be given a composition brief, which they will be guided through by game music composer and course instructor Mick Kiely. The course will take place from 11 to 13 June and costs €380. Places can be reserved by emailing gamesmusicireland@gmail.com

The Irish Music Rights Organisation’s AGM is also taking place on 20 June at IMRO offices on Pembroke Row, providing an opportunity for member music authors to raise and discuss issues relevant to music creators and users.
