Interview with Donnacha Dennehy

Composer and director of the Crash Ensemble, Donnacha Dennehy talks to Jonathan Grimes about his new work, That the Night Come, for grammy-award winning American singer Dawn Upshaw, working with texts and his interest in vocal music, and his 2007 work for Sean Nós singer, Iarla Ó Lionáird.

That the Night Come is a Yeats-inspired collection of songs written by Donnacha Dennehy for the four-time Grammy Award-winning and internationally renowned US soprano Dawn Upshaw.

The work was premiered by the Crash Ensemble and Dawn Upshaw at a concert at the Irish Museum of Modern Art on 2 October 2010 alongside Dennehy’s 2007 work, Grá agus Bás, for internationally distinguished sean nós singer, Iarla O Lionáird.

Donnacha Dennehy was interviewed by Jonathan Grimes at the composer’s house on 22 September 2010.
