Two of the world’s finest artists, violinist Isabelle Faust and soprano Anna Prohaska, come together to perform György Kurtág’s ‘Kafka-Fragmente’ in the days leading up to this profoundly significant composer’s 100th birthday on 19 February 2026.
Completed in 1986 and dedicated to art psychologist Marianne Stein, who helped Kurtág recover from a creative block, ‘Kafka-Fragmente’ sets extracts from Kafka’s diaries, letters and a posthumous text. Taking the form of an intimate confession with no fixed narrative, the work explores a kaleidoscope of emotional states, humour, sensuality, desire and tenderness, expressed through the striking pairing of soprano and solo violin.
This special performance offers a rare opportunity to experience the compelling musical partnership of Faust and Prohaska, both at the height of their powers.
