Gaudeamus 2025 : NADAR Ensemble – Summer School

11 September 2025 19:00

Gaudeamus Festival (Various Locations)

Adventure, interdisciplinarity and above all a critical attitude towards today’s world are some of the main objectives of the Nadar Ensemble. That is why the ensemble is fascinated not only by contemporary music, but also by film, visual arts, performance, installation art and everything that encompasses these categories – or not. During their annual Summer School, they work together with a new, young and promising generation of composers who are just as inquisitive and groundbreaking.

Matthew Grouse, nominated for the Gaudeamus Award 2025, creates an absurdist world in his piece To put words in my mouth, with the facial movements that people make to produce sounds. Nostalgia prevails in the work of Eveline Vervliet in which a pianist muses about an electronic toy instrument from her time, and in which previous performances of the piece shine through as a bygone memory. The cosmic horror world of H.P. Lovecraft is a starting point for Nina Fukuoka’s piece Yuggoth. Paul Scully, not only a composer but also a gifted runner, literally goes for his top time over 3 km in Personal best, which can be followed in real time and is provided with sports commentary.

Presented in partnership by Nadar Ensemble, New Music Dublin Festival, the Contemporary Music Centre, Ireland, Gaudeamus Festival, Warsaw Autumn and Transit Festival.
