Sparky Conversations: The Space Between - Working from the Inside Out with Vourneen Ryan

21 November 2025 12:00

What lives in the space between who you are and what you create?

Flautist and performance coach Vourneen Ryan explores this territory—the often-overlooked gap between inner awareness and artistic expression. Through deep dives into mindset, presence, and creative resilience, she invites artists to examine a fundamental truth: the quality of your inner world directly shapes the power of your outer voice.

This isn't about technique alone. It's about the work that happens before the work—the mental training, the self-awareness, the courage to show up fully. It's about learning to navigate the space between, where clarity emerges, balance is found, and real growth becomes possible.

Vourneen Ryan is a professional flautist, professor, and performance coach who bridges the worlds of music and mindset. Trained at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she previously served as Sub-Principal Flute with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and now performs regularly with leading orchestras across Ireland and the UK.

With a Master's degree in Sports, Exercise and Performance Psychology, Vourneen combines technical mastery with mental skills training to work with musicians at every level. She is a professor of flute and lecturer at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, where she delivers workshops on mindset and performance psychology to students and arts organisations throughout Ireland and the UK. A passionate chamber musician, she performs with Trio Táin, Musici Ireland, and Glas Quartet.
