Sparky Conversations: Curious Adventures with George Higgs

As part of CMC's online discussion series Sparky Conversations, composer and instrument builder George Higgs will lead a discussion on his work with deaf participants, and accepting the role of the non-expert, of being a learner in the room rather than a leader. The conversation will explore the importance of finding common ground with others, and reinventing ideas of community and connection through music.
I've been working musically for the past 15 years with deaf participants to broaden my approach to composition. Currently I'm working with the University of Liverpool and Music Generation on a pilot programme in a Wexford deaf school to create a multisensory music programme for both deaf and hearing individuals. I've also been funded by Arts Council Ireland to create multisensory graphic scores to explore a visual, kinesthetic and vibrotactile notation grammar.

As always, all are welcome to Sparky Conversations, and participation in discussions is encouraged. This season, conversations will begin with an open forum for audience questions and ideas, followed by a presentation from the artist/initiator.
