Timothy Cape presents a live preview to an upcoming EP called Letters from the Squaring.
Letters from the Squaring is based around texts from anonymous threatening letters from 19th century rural Irish land revolts vocalised within an experimental rock soundscape. The title comes from land reforms brought in by colonial powers and landlords, known locally in Donegal at the time as "the squaring of the farms", a form of enclosure which brought an end a centuries old collective system of land distribution. These letters shine a light on the resistance to, and general fallout from these epochal changes to the physical and cultural landscape of rural Ireland in the period before and during the famine.
