Premiere of Soother, written for Soundinitative ensemble
Conservatoire Municipal de Musique et de Danse - Auditorium Antonin Artaud
Ensemble Soundinitiative perform Irish Composer Timothy Cape's new work Soother, commissioned through the Diaphonique fund.
Threaded through choreographic and musical material which is at times un-nerving, touching and delightful, Soother features glimpses of a narrative - a man in his thirties who still lives with his mum, thanks to the housing crisis. He escapes this infantilising dynamic by spending hours on his phone playing mind-numbing games. The audience are shown an insight inside his mind, where relationship and life pressures get mixed up with the scoring system and competitive logic of the game. The musicians play instruments , spit candies on glockenspiels, and sing, creating a world at turns moving, absurd and funny.
