Join us for Lunchtimes with ConTempo on Tuesday 1 April at 1:10pm in St Nicholas' Collegiate Church, Galway.
As part of our Nature & Ecology theme for 2025, we are exploring the very important biodiversity issue of Light. From morning to night the light that surrounds us – both natural and artificial – has a huge impact on biodiversity, whether positively or negatively. This specially curated programme creates space for Galway audiences to consider our environment through the lens of light and enjoy music marking the day, from dawn until dusk. ConTempo Quartet will perform works celebrating the various forms of light we experience throughout our day.
Works will include Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 76, No. 4, nicknamed - ‘Sunrise’ due to the rising theme that begins the quartet. The programme will also feature Australian composer Angela Polden’s Narawntapu Dusk which depicts the composer’s time at spent one of Tasmania’s prized National Parks: Narawntapu National Park. Finally, looking to the moon, ConTempo Quartet will perform wax/wane by Irish contemporary composer Sarah O’Halloran.
