...in the place just right...Irish Youth Choir in Concert

Sing Ireland and The Irish Youth Choir present …in the place just right….

To crown their annual summer course under internationally acclaimed artistic director Bernie Sherlock, the talented and hand-picked singers of Ireland's pre-eminent young-adult choir present concerts in Limerick and Dublin. The Dublin concert marks the IYC's debut performance in Whyte Hall, the Royal Irish Academy of Music's brand new state-of-the-art performance space.

This year the choir's fascinating programme asks about “the place just right.”

But where is it?

In her piece “To be free,” American composer Karen Siegel declares that the place just right is wherever we express gratitude for our communities… emphasizing the importance of showing kindness to the newly arrived stranger.

What is it like to be in that place? And what is it like to be outside it, to be excluded?

These are the questions this concert explores. In the IYC’s brilliant programme there are glimpses of the place just right throughout, whether the music is lively or reflective, whether it's old —by Palestrina or Monteverdi – or very, very new – with world premieres of IYC commissions by David Coonan and Laura Sheils — and whether it's in classic style or coloured with pop or with improv.
