Fidelio Trio at National Sawdust New York

Irish piano trio ‘the virtuosic Fidelio Trio’ Sunday Times, make their much-anticipated debut at National Sawdust bringing a typically eclectic offering of unique works for this line-up, featuring music specially composed for Fidelio Trio. Anna Clyne’s evocative 2020 lockdown work A Thousand Mornings draws inspiration from a Mary Oliver poem of the same title. Fidelio Trio were invited by Philip Glass to record Head On for his label Orange Mountain. Irish composer Linda Buckley, who recently co-wrote the music for Nothing Compares documentary about Sinéad O Connor with her sister Irene, has collaborated with the trio for over 25 years and is heard here in her work Galura. Fellow Irish composer David Fennessy composed his Piano Trio No 2 In Memoriam Spencer Boney for Fidelio Trio also in 2020, marking the 25th anniversary of the untimely death of the trio’s original pianist Spencer Boney.
The programme also includes John Zorn’s eerie Ghost Trio influenced by Beethoven’s trio of the same name and is completed with Shadow in the garden by Irish composer Inti Figgis-Vizueta inspired by walks in the garden of Dumbarton Oaks.
Fidelio Trio’s appearance at National Sawdust is supported by Culture Ireland.
