New Music Dublin 2024: Darragh Morgan & Mary Dullea - Gerald Barry In Focus
Kevin Barry Recital Room, National Concert Hall
‘Enchanting, exhilarating, wildly funny, frighteningly violent or downright infuriating, sometimes all at the same time’ (The Guardian) - Gerald Barry’s music never fails to captivate its listeners. This lunchtime performance offers a rare opportunity to experience the acclaimed CMC composer’s lesser-known chamber music, as two of his longtime advocates – violinist Darragh Morgan and pianist Mary Dullea, both members of the renowned Fidelio Trio – perform works from their recent album.
2022 marked the release of ‘Gerald Barry – In the Asylum’ with the Fidelio Trio on the prestigious New York Mode Records label. The album garnered much praise and attention in the international music press—hailed as ‘beautifully performed throughout’ in BBC Music Magazine’s 5* review.
Covering some 36 years of composition, it collects works for piano through piano quartet, including Midday, written especially for Morgan and Dullea.
