Biennale College Musica 2022 presents the world premiere of 'Still Drowsy' by Timothy Cape
Teatro Piccolo Arsenale

As part of the world famous Biennale di Venezia, the Biennale College Music 2022 present two new works of experimental music theatre by Timothy Cape and Daniil Posazhennikov. These works were commissioned as part of the Biennale College Music programme in which ten young people from around the world were mentored by Biennale College Musica 2022 tutors in the development of the dramaturgy for their projects, in the choice and treatment of their texts, and in their experimentation with different instrumental and vocal techniques intrinsic to music theatre. Timothy Cape and Daniil Posazhennikov have created two new works of instrumental theatre for the voice of Esther-Elisabeth Rispens and the Ars Ludi ensemble;
Timothy Cape on 'Still Drowsy':
On the stage we meet an ambitious freelancer launching herself full-tilt towards her career goals, multitasking roles of entrepreneur of the self, self-administrator, self-motivator and PR manager... of herself. It’s not work, because she’s doing what she loves. She is her work. Espresso machines clatter, beans grind, throat gulps, emails whoosh, a head nods, a mouth networks and smiles, a brain struggles to find the right words, the right emotional tone. Voices of self-help success gurus echo, “if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything, we all have the same 24 hours in a day...” we spiral inwards, downwards, ever faster, fragmenting, becoming coffee, becoming machine.
