Ulysses Journey 2022 continues with the Hungarian premiere of six new music and film works from Ireland, complemented by a Discussion on Joyce and Music, featured as part of the celebration of the centenary of the publication of Joyce’s Ulysses at FUGA :: Budapest Center of Architecture from 17 to 30 June 2022.

Art Exhibition - Joycean Transfigurations: Ulysses and Ireland in the Works of Ferenc Martyn and Imre Szemethy: 7.40pm-7.50pm

This art exhibition, celebrating the centenary of the publication in its entirety of Ulysses by James Joyce, presents a selection of Joyce illustrations and Irish-themed graphics and paintings by Hungarian artists Ferenc Martyn and Imre Szemethy, organised by the James Joyce Society in Hungary with the support of the Embassy of Ireland, Hungary and in cooperation with Janus Pannonius Museum (Pécs) and Museum of Kuny Domokos (Tata).
This Joycean Transfigurations art exhibition, hosted at FUGA :: Budapest Center of Architecture, will be open for two weeks until 30 June 2022.
New Music and Films from Ireland - Ulysses Journey 2022: 7.50pm-8.10pm
Introduction by CMC’s Jonathan Grimes to a Discussion on Joyce and Music. The Discussion on Joyce and Music will feature composer Prof. Benjamin Dwyer in conversation with CMC’s Linda O’Shea Farren.
This Discussion on Joyce and Music will be followed by screenings of six new works of music and films specially commissioned for Ulysses Journey 2022. These films feature new works by composers Ed Bennett, Darragh Kelly, Garth Knox, Anselm McDonnell, Aílis Ní Ríain and Ultan O’Brien, which are inspired by, reflect on and/or respond to Ulysses, together with films to accompany these new works by filmmakers Jonathan C. Creasy, Rioghnach Ní Ghrioghair, Aílis Ní Ríain, Ultan O’Brien, Laura Sheeran and Ross Wilson BEM & Art Ward.
These Ulysses Journey 2022 films will be continuously screened at FUGA :: Budapest Center of Architecture, alongside the Joycean Transfigurations art exhibition, until 30 June 2022.

As part of Ulysses Journey 2022, a concert will be presented in the Budapest Music Center on 15 June 2022 in addition to this event in FUGA in Budapest on 17 June 2022, with support from the Embassy of Ireland in Hungary. In April 2022, these films and discussion were presented as part of the One Dublin One Book and New Music Dublin festivals. From 2 to 6 February 2022, these films were also co-premiered in Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris in partnership with CMC, and this concert series, film screenings and discussion were presented in the Irish Film Institute in Dublin in partnership with the IFI; in The MAC in Belfast in partnership with Moving on Music; in SARC in Belfast in partnership with QUB; in The Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin in partnership with Sundays@Noon.
