MOBHI'S BELT
Hear the story of Mobhi’s Belt in a dramatic musical setting by Derry composer Seán Doherty and performed as a world premiere by members of the Donegal Chamber Orchestra and The Conwal Singers. It's a tale of an important yet little-known incident in the life of Colmcille, and it could hardly be more relevant - it tells of the effect of a pandemic in Colmcille’s monastic career. The work has been specially commissioned to help celebrate the 1500th anniversary of Colmcille's birth in 521.
This concert, part of the events of the Sixth Annual Cathedral Quarter Literary Festival, will also include music by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, who died 100 years ago, and Argentina's Tango Master Astor Piazzolla, born in 1921.
This project has been supported through the Colmcille1500 Grant Scheme which is funded by the North West Development Fund and Creative Ireland, in conjunction with and supported by The Executive Office and The Irish Government.
