SOUND PASSING : A concert featuring The Galway ConTempo Quartet and Concorde

11 June 2016 19:30

Aula Maxima, NUI Galway

The Contemporary Music Centre (CMC) in association with The Galway Music Residency and RTÉ LyricFM present SOUND PASSING, a concert of contemporary music from the island of Ireland.  The highlight of this event will be the premiere of Calmly Awaiting the End, a new work commemorating the life of patriot and piper Eamonn Ceannt, the Galway-born signatory of the 1916 proclamation.  Composed by Dave Flynn, founder and Artistic Director of the Clare Memory Orchestra, the work will be brought to life by renowned piper, performer and recording artist Mick O’Brien and Galway’s ensemble-in-residence, The Galway ConTempo Quartet. This new work has been commissioned by Galway City Council and The Galway Music Residency in association with the CMC.

This event forms part of the meeting and conference of the International Association of Music Information Centres (IAMIC) being hosted this year by the CMC at NUI Galway, 10 – 13 June.  The concert on 11 June is open to the public and in addition to ConTempo and Mick O’Brien will feature contemporary music ensemble, Concorde, who this year celebrate their 40th anniversary.  Other leading composers from Ireland whose works will be featured include Jane O'Leary, Judith Ring, Ed Bennett and Rhona Clarke.

Tickets for SOUND PASSING €15 / €12 available on Eventbrite or at the venue.

Other public events held as part of the IAMIC annual meeting and conference include a one-day conference, The Listening Crowd, on 13 June.
