The Studio @ CMC

The Studio, located on the second floor of the Contemporary Music Centre, is now available for booking on a limited basis.

What is the Studio @ CMC and who can use it?

Situated on the second floor of the Contemporary Music Centre building on Dublin city’s historic Fishamble Street, the CMC Studio is available for composition work, basic audio post-production, podcast recording, and single instrument tracking. As with the main Creative Space, the Studio is primarily intended as a support for practitioners connected to contemporary classical music (“new music”) on the island of Ireland. The studio offers a desk workspace with HDMI screen, MIDI keyboard, audio interface, and monitors, as well as a podcasting interface and a small selection of microphones. Best suited to a composer or sound artist who needs a quiet space for focussed individual work, the studio is a cozy, utilitarian space.

What facilities and equipment are available?

  • Desk workspace with HDMI monitor, audio monitors, audio interface, trackpad
  • MIDI keyboard and stand
  • Podcasting workspace with interface and microphones (cabled to interface)
  • 2 x microphone stands
  • 1 x music stands
  • 2 x pencil condenser microphones
  • Tea / coffee facilities
  • Kitchen access

The CMC Studio is not wheelchair accessible, due to the absence of lift facilities.  Please see information on access below.

Standard use

The CMC Studio is available to book for standard use, free of charge, up to 12 weeks in advance. Currently, the CMC Studio is also required for internal use, and so bookings are restricted to Tuesdays 10-13 and 14-17. To qualify for standard use, the user must provide details of their project, and explicitly state how the use connects to contemporary classical music ("new music") on the island of Ireland. For a standard use the maximum number of persons occupying the space is 2. Details of the persons attending for the slot must be given at time of booking. "Standard use" bookings are considered as "dry hire" – a single designated staff member will be available in the building, but it is not possible to provide any ongoing support (technical or otherwise) during the booking.

CMC Studio bookings are currently by email only. Please email gsholdice@cmc.ie to enquire about availability and to make a booking.

Special use

“Special uses” refer to bookings that fall outside the terms set out for standard use above, and may incur a charge for the use, invoiced and payable in advance. The CMC welcomes enquiries for such uses, and will consider possibilities for facilitation on a case-by-case basis. All enquiries for special uses should be directed to gsholdice@cmc.ie.
