Andrew Purcell

(b. 1970)

Andrew Purcell was born in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. He studied at Waterford Institute of Technology and at NUI Maynooth where he was awarded an MA in composition in 2001. His composition teachers have included Eric Sweeney, John Buckley and Martin O’Leary and he has also attended workshops with Nicola le Fanu and James Wilson.

Andrew Purcell’s works have been preformed by numerous ensembles and instrumentalists including Kenneth Edge, Colette McGahon and the NUI Maynooth Chamber Choir.

Awards include first prize in the 2001 Feis Ceoil/IMRO composition competition and the 2002 Mostly Modern composition prize.
