Alex Dowling

(b. 1987)

Alex Dowling is an Irish composer. He makes electronic vocal music by repurposing effects such as autotune to try and find new directions for these processes.

He has had works performed by groups including the RTE Irish National Symphony Orchestra, Crash Ensemble, Prism Saxophone Quartet, orkest de ereprijs, and Mivos String Quartet. He has written music for laptop orchestra (after founding the Dublin Laptop Orchestra in 2011), theater, and his audiovisual installation Bodysnatcher was exhibited at the Eyebeam Gallery, NY and toured many other countries. Awards include the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award, Jerome Hynes Composer Award, and the West Cork Chamber Music Composition Award. He is currently completing a PhD in music composition at Princeton University.
