RIAM Virtual Youth Choir Summer Project

Deadline: 29 June 2020 10:00

A fantastic opportunity for singers age 13-18 to develop their choral skills and work collaboratively on an ambitious Summer Project.

Mon, 29 Jun 2020, 10:00 – Fri, 3 Jul 2020, 16:00 IST

The RIAM Virtual Youth Choir Summer Project invites singers age 13-18 to spend a week honing their choral singing and musicianship skills and learning about healthy vocal technique as they receive online coaching from DYC Founder Lynsey Callaghan and work on a collaborative social-distance singing project.

Students will take part in a wide range talks and workshops, from conducting and musicianship skills, to vocal masterclasses—but the main event will be an enormous collaborative recording project of Benjamin Britten’s cantata, Rejoice in the Lamb.

This impressive piece of music is no small undertaking, containing eight different sections which shift in tempo, character, and subject matter. Different sections will be tackled and recorded each day, with opportunities for solos in all four voice parts.

Selected soloists will also get to take part in a masterclass with soprano and RIAM Vocal faculty member Lynda Lee, working with her to put the finishing touches on their solo before the final recording.

This is an exciting, and hugely ambitious project, and will give young people who love to sing the chance to accomplish something truly extraordinary this Summer.

Note: Webinar sessions will be delivered via Zoom, and participants will need access to a device (phone, tablet, camera) which allows them to record video and audio of their part for the final project.
