I-Park International Artist in Residency Program
Announcing The 2018 Composers + Musicians Collaborative Residency
I-Park artists-in-residence program is accepting applications for its 2018 Composers + Musicians Collaborative Residency, taking place July 24 – August 6 in East Haddam, Connecticut, U.S.A. Five composers team with members of the Akropolis Reed Quintet in an intensive daily collaboration designed to shape and polish substantially complete chamber ensemble works to
a state of concert readiness. The residency culminates in a pair of public performances in Connecticut and New York City. Residencies are fully funded, and include a private room, meals, a studio recording of all new works, and a $1,000 stipend.
One of I-Park’s signature programs is its Composers + Musicians Collaborative Residency. Launched in 2015 and repeated in 2016, the residency pairs five composers with a prominent chamber ensemble for a two-week onsite residency. The program allows the composer to hear their work performed by live musicians while they are in the process of creating it! The dialogue and and fellowship among the musicians and the composers create bonds of trust and respect that translates into subtle, and sometime transformative, improvements in the musical works. The residency culminates in two all-premiere concerts, one in Connecticut and the final one in New York City.
This year’s ensemble-in-residence is the acclaimed Akropolis Reed Quintet from Michigan. The unique instrumentation of this group and their high energy and level of technical proficiency will make for a most exciting collaboration. We can’t wait to see and hear what this session will serve up for us!
