Call for Work - Chamber Music on Valentia

Deadline: Thu 19 Jul 2018 - 17:00

The 5th annual Chamber Music on Valentia Festival would like to invite proposals from composers/sound artists/music creators, primarily based in Kerry and the South West for a work/installation to be performed/presented on Saturday 18th August 2018, 1-5 pm in The Lighthouse, Cromwell Point. One of the famed Great Lighthouses of Ireland, the performance space will be in the Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage, hugging the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

Thematically this work ideally should respond to remarkable underwater photography by Brian Stone, reflecting the coastal waters of Ireland and beyond. Brian has an enormous output of work providing a fascinating view of life under the surface of our oceans. The photography will be projected on a constant loop throughout the afternoon.

Applications can be: installation/live performance/electroacoustic or acousmatic work/improvisation/cross genre.
This work and showing will celebrate the work of Maude Delap, a pioneer self-taught marine biologist who made a number of significant contributions to the field, lived on Valentia from a young age until her death in 1953 and had a rare anemone, only found on Valentia Island, named after her: the Edwardsia delapiae. There is a prize of €500 to be awarded to the selected entry. Both new work and existing
work that can be developed or adapted to this setting will be considered.

To apply please send:
1. Maximum 150 word proposal outlining the planned work
2. Examples of 2 other pieces of work
3. CV

to info@chambermusiconvalentia.com by the closing date of Thursday 19th July.
