Boston New Music Initiative 15th Anniversary Celebration Commissioning Prize
The Boston New Music Initiative is pleased to announce an opportunity to write a new small work for its 15th Anniversary celebration.
The purpose of this competition is to further the mission of The Boston New Music Initiative to maintain an international network of composers, performers, conductors, directors, and champions of music in order to generate new music concerts, compositions, collaborations, and commissions. Incorporated in 2010, the organization aims to advance the careers of its members in the field of new music by serving as a resource for networking, professional development, commissioning, collaboration, and programming.
Composers interested in the competition should submit a score and recording (as applicable) of the best two minutes of their music. The winner(s) of this competition will receive a $50 prize, and the opportunity to compose a new 1-3 minute work for performance by The Boston New Music Initiative during a pop-up concert series in the Boston Area in spring 2025.
If selected, the composer may express a preference of instrumentation, but BNMI reserves the right to make final selections. New works will be for fixed media, solo, duet or trio including, flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin and cello. Additional instruments may be available at BNMI’s discretion.
Any composer is eligible except those currently or formerly on the staff of The Boston New Music Initiative and past commission winners. The competition will be adjudicated in a blind evaluation process.
We strongly encourage all composers to download and review the BNMI Submission Guide ahead of submitting to this competition.
