Deadline: 15 March 2022 17:00

The MUSIKFORUM VIKTRING-KLAGENFURT hereby announces the 21st INTERNATIONAL GUSTAV MAHLER COMPOSITION PRIZE OF THE CITY OF KLAGENFURT, for which the young, internationally renowned MOBILIS SAXOPHONE QUARTET could be won. Composers of any nationality and without age restriction are cordially invited to submit a composition (duration: max. 10 minutes) for saxophone quartet (soprano saxophone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone).

The award-winning works will be premiered on July 10, 2022 by the Mobilis Saxophone Quartet as part of the Musikforum in Klagenfurt, recorded by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) and broadcast on Ö1.

The Gustav Mahler Composition Prize has existed since 1995 and - in the spirit of the music forum - is characterized by its openness to all musical directions. It is encouraged to experiment and re-measure boundaries. It is also possible to integrate improvised elements.

Johannes Maria Staud (A)

Charlotte Bray (UK)

Jakob Gruchmann (A)

Michael Krenn (A, Mobilis Saxophone Quartet )

Johannes Berauer (A, Chair - without voting rights)

The jury's decision will be made at the beginning of May 2022 and cannot be contested.

Prize (sponsored by the City of Klagenfurt): Euro 3,000.00

Prize (sponsored by the State of Carinthia): Euro 1,500

Prize (sponsored by Musikforum Viktring-Klagenfurt): Euro 500, -

The compositions are to be submitted in the form of four (4) copies of the score (scores must not include the name of the composer) with the registration form and a biography by post and as a PDF file by email to office@musikforum.at .

The completed and signed registration form as well as the biography must be enclosed with the anonymized scores in a sealed envelope on which only the title of the composition may be noted.

To make the jury's work easier, we ask for a sounding (in C) notated PDF score and, if possible, a recording (MIDI realization). The full first and last name of the composer and the title of the piece should be given in the text of the e-mail! The music forum will anonymously forward the PDF files to the jury.

The original scores (bound, pages numbered, the name of the composer must not appear anywhere, the title of the piece on the cover sheet) must be sent by March 15, 2022
