2021 Seán Ó Riada Composition Competition
Cork International Choral Festival is delighted invite entries from Irish composers for the prestigious 2021 Seán Ó Riada Composition Competition.
Judged by a panel of experts and composers of international renown, the competition awards a cash prize, kindly donated by the Ó Ríada family, and the coveted Seán Ó Riada Trophy to the winning composer. The winning piece will in turn be given its premiere performance by Chamber Choir Ireland, conducted by Paul Hillier, at the Festival’s Gala Concert on Friday 30 April, 2021.
This year’s Chamber Choir Ireland gala concert will be an extra special double-bill as the winning piece by last year’s competition winner, Peter Leavy, will also be performed. The concert, which will this year take place in Cork City Hall or online, will see Peter’s piece, ‘It Will Not Depart’ finally receive its world premier following the cancellation of the 2020 festival due to Covid19 restrictions.
Full information on this year’s competition is available on the Festival’s website. Online applications are now being accepted via https://www.corkchoral.ie/sean-o-riada-
composition-competition/. The online application consists of two separate forms (Form 1 – Score submission, and Form 2 – Composer’s Contact Details). Applications should be forwarded before the deadline of the 29th January 2021. The composer must use a pseudonym on the score.
The Cork International Choral Festival Sean Ó Riada Composition Competition is run in collaboration with Chamber Choir Ireland and the Ó Riada Family Trust.
