2020 Quadre Composition Contest – New Music for Four Horns

Quadre, the Voice of Four Horns, invites composers of any age and nationality to submit scores for horn quartet or horn quartet and percussion.  No fee.  Two awards will be given: First Prize $500 and Second Prize $300.  Winning works will be performed during the 2020-21 season.

Competition Details

Works may be for horn quartet or horn quartet + solo percussion. The work can be a single or multi-movement piece.
All composers are eligible. There is no fee.
Please submit only one piece 6 to 12 minutes in duration. Include a PDF of your score and a set of performance parts. Parts and scores should be fully edited and easily readable. Manuscript size will not exceed 8.5″ x 14″.
Submit a recording as an MP3 or MP4. Live or electronic recordings are fine.
Works may have been performed before, but no published or commissioned pieces are eligible.
Your name must not appear anywhere on the music. Include the work’s previous performance history, if any.
Winners will be announced by June 4, 2020. The judges reserve the right to withhold prizes if in their judgment no deserving works are submitted.
The decision of the contest jury will be final.
All performance, copyright, and royalty rights of all the works submitted remain with the composers.

In addition to the prize money, winning works will be performed in public during the 2020–2021 Quadre season. Winning composers will receive a program, a recording, and a written evaluation by the judging committee. Winners will be invited to attend the concert(s) for free, but no additional expenses will be reimbursed. Winning composers may also be approached for publication of their work by Solid Wood Publishing.
