Our programme begins with the final movement of The Pearl by Anselm McDonnell, a suite of four miniatures based on John Steinbeck’s short story The Pearl in which a poor diver, Kino, finds the Pearl of the World. It will be followed by Ian Wilson’s Licht/ung, a piece commissioned for the Venice Biennale in 2004, and which receives its UK premiere in this concert. And we’ll conclude with Deirdre Gribbin’s piano concerto, The Binding of the Years which will be played by pianist Finghin Collins in a welcome return to Belfast and the BBC’s airwaves.

This BBC concert will be conducted by David Brophy.
