3 Saturdays :: 3 Kinds of Music

24 March 2018 11:00

Mick Lally Theatre

The Galway Music Residency is delighted to present another 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music this spring/summer under guest curator Matthew Berrill, former Artistic Director of the Galway Jazz Festival. Matthew has put together a tasting menu of musical treats, from jazz to trad, classical to contemporary, which can be enjoyed on the 24th March, 21st April and 26th May at 11am in its new home The Mick Lally Theatre on Druid Lane.;

The series’ first concert of the series on 24th March will feature Sinead Hayes, conductor of the Hard Rain Ensemble and talented violinist in her own right. She will be joined by her sister Nuala (flute) and together they will explore pairings of excerpts from Bach’s 2nd partita for solo violin and traditional tunes. Extending the traditional theme, Pádraic Keane (pipes) and Seán Hughes (fiddle), both Galway natives, will treat the audience to a selection of tunes. Pádraic will also join ConTempo to perform Amanda Feery’s Something Like Light But Not, her work for String Quartet and Uilleann Pipes, which was premiered by these five musicians last November as part of GMR’s Music & Musings series. ConTempo will continue the focus on the ‘pipes’ with a performance of Dave Flynn’s The Cranning, an emotive work emulating the sound and feel of this great instrument.

Tickets are free, donations are welcome at the door.
