28 August 2016 20:00

St Michael’s Church

David Bremner and David Stalling present a programme for organ, field recordings and electronics at St.Michael's Church. It intends to broaden the perception of the organ by engaging with contemporary sound art practices.

Programme:

Tom Johnson (b1939)

Pieces from Organ and Silence (2000)

[organ]

David Bremner (b1977)

Repetition-Canon (world première)

[organ and field recordings]

Gráinne Mulvey (b1966)

streetorgsounds (2012)

[organ and tape]

David Stalling (b1971)

Eight Windows (world première)

[organ, field recordings and electronic sounds]

The programme includes the première of Eight Windows, a newly commissioned work by David Stalling. Using eight field recordings from the Dún Laoghaire area, Stalling composes a layered soundscape, with the organ as the mainstay. At times, the instrument complements the field recordings and at other moments leads this meditative sonic experience.

Some of the field recordings used in Eight Windows are featured on A Soundmap of Dún Laoghaire (www.dunlaoghairesoundmap.com), an ongoing collaborative sonic mapping project led by Anthony Kelly and David Stalling.
