Facilities and Services

Library

Our library contains a collection of over 9,000 works by over 220 Irish composers. This valuable resource is the only comprehensive collection of music by Irish composers in existence. Most of the works are unpublished and copies of scores and parts are available for reference, sale, hire or inspection.

CMC warmly welcomes performers, creative artists, scholars, researchers, and all interested members of the public to visit the Library. Please see here for information on booking an appointment.

Audiovisual Archive

The audiovisual archive contains some 10,000 recordings of music by Irish composers alongside talks and interviews in various formats from CDs to LPs, cassettes and quarter-inch reels. Recordings range from commercially-recorded releases to archival recordings and radio broadcasts. A large part of the collection consists of archival recordings from RTÉ, the national broadcaster, the result of an ongoing partnership with CMC where copies of recordings are transferred to CMC's collections. CMC also actively documents new music activity by recording concerts of significant performances and premieres of new Irish works, as well as recording and archiving related interviews and talks.

Building

CMC is committed to maximising the use of CMC’s historic base in central Dublin as a physical resource for composers and performers to aid their practice, and as a place for the sector to network and exchange ideas. Among the facilities, CMC's building provides access to drop-in information services, the centre's meeting room for AGMs and meetings for composers and new music groups and organisations, and use of the building for launch and profile of new album releases from the new music community. CMC also holds events in its building and these provide opportunities for showcasing both live and audiovisual work. In addition, a number of CDs, published scores and books are available to browse or listen to in the centre.

CMC Creative Space

The CMC Creative Space is located on the ground floor of the Contemporary Music Centre. The Creative Space is a facility for artists active in New Music in Ireland who require space in Dublin city centre for workshops, development work, collaborations and / or rehearsals. Booking is free of charge, and slots can be booked up to four weeks in advance. The recommended maximum occupancy of the CMC Creative Space is 4 people. There is a baby grand piano in situ which is available for use. To find out more and book a slot, please see here.
