NEW ON THE SITE In advance of RTÉ's first Horizons concert, which features the premiere of Kevin O'Connell's first symphony on 11 January 2011, conductor Gavin Maloney talks about the work and performing new music. cmc.ie/articles/article1948.html See also: cmcireland.wordpress.com/2010/12/16/rtensohorizonsseries2011/ Hear Kevin O'Connell in conversation with Evonne Ferguson, Director of the Contemporary Music Centre at 12:30pm in the National Concert Hall, directly before the concerts. These Composer's in Conversation events are being presented by RTÉ in association with CMC.

CMC EVENTS

 In CMC's platform for performance, on Wednesday 9 February, Softday will launch the recording of their latest work Marbh Chrois, a ground breaking art and science project which examines the issues of climate change in Co. Donegal. Softday will launch the recording with a special live experimental performance. Further details will be available shortly on CMC's web site.

 The West Cork Chamber Music Festival in partnership with CMC announces a composer competition for young Irish composers.

 Artists are invited to submit work as part of the Just Listen sound art event, which takes place in Cork and Limerick during April/May 2011. The deadline is 20 January 2011.

 The newly formed Quangle Ensemble performs in Belfast and Dublin on 5 and 6 January.

 The 2011 Kaleidoscope series takes place on the first Wednesday of each month, beginning on 5 January.

 The Sundays at Noon concert series on 16 January features a new trio, Trilogue, with composer and bass player Ronan Guilfoyle, pianist Izumi Kimura and Swiss jazz singer Sarah Buechi.

 Congratulations to Belfast-based composer, Peter Rosser, who receives a Major Individual Artist award from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
