The Contemporary Music Centre Launches CD by Guitarist John Feeley

Leading Irish classical guitarist John Feeley's much awaited new CD ready to be launched.

Evonne Ferguson, Director, The Contemporary Music Centre, officially launches the CD islands by John Feeley, guitar, with Laura Chislett, flute, and Pavlos Kanellakis, guitar, in the Kevin Barry Room of the National Concert Hall, 7pm – 8pm, 17 November 2010.

This new CD from John Feeley consists of contemporary Irish solo and ensemble works for guitar. The CD features Irish composers; David Fennessy, Benjamin Dwyer, John McLachlan, Jane O'Leary, Eric Sweeney, Seóirse Bodley and Brent Parker with works all written between 1988 and 2006.

"islands, the title of this recording, is taken from Seóirse Bodley's work for guitar. However, it also reflects that the CD comprises a set of disparate and varied works, recorded at different times and in different venues on a variety of instruments" says John Feeley.

The CD is produced by Overture Music. The Contemporary Music Centre assisted in the recording of one track on the CD. The sheet music for the tracks on the CD are available from either Overture Music via www.overturemusic.net or the Contemporary Music Centre via www.cmc.ie.

The CD launch will directly follow a CMC new music::new Ireland salon event featuring John Feeley with the ConTempo String Quartet in the Kevin Barry Room, 6pm – 7pm. Admission to this event is free but booking is recommended. To book tel : 01 4710000 or email: info@nch.ie.

John Feeley
John Feeley studied music at Trinity College, Dublin, Queens College of the City University, New York, and The National University of Ireland, Maynooth, where he graduated with a PhD. He studied guitar with Oscar Ghiglia, Angel Romero and David Russel. He has taught at the American Institute of Guitar, Memphis State University and currently holds the post of Senior Lecturer at the Conservatory of Music, Dublin Institute of Technology.

In addition to his solo and chamber music concerts, Feeley has performed widely with orchestra - with The American Symphony at Carnegie Hall, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the Ulster Orchestra, and the Irish Chamber Orchestra, among others. He has won a number of prizes in international competitions, including the Special Award for interpretation in the 1984 Mauro Giuliani competition, Italy. He is highly regarded for his performance of new works by Irish composers. He has made recordings with K-Tel, Gael-Linn Records, CBA Classics, Ossiain Records, Castle Communications, a highly acclaimed CD of contemporary Irish music with Blackbox Music, England and has released a CD of the music of Irish composer John Buckley with the German company, Celestial Harmonies. He has also recorded with the Chieftains and famous Spanish Soprano Montserrat Caballes.

Laura Chislett Jones
Laura has become widely know in her native Australia and abroad for her performance of contemporary flute repertoire which have been acclaimed by critics for their passion, accuracy and commitment.

Pavlos Kanellakis
Born in Athens, Greece, Pavlos is a prize winning guitarist who performs internationally. Since 2007 he has been studying with John Feeley at the Conservatory of Music, DIT, where he is also completing a PhD in music.
