For Immediate ReleaseThe Contemporary Music Centre Launches Solo Series I - CD Series and Concert Programme24 March 2010 The Contemporary Music Centre launches Solo Series I produced by Diatribe Records in conjunction with the Contemporary Music Centre at 500pm - 630pm, Friday 16 April 2010 in the CMC, Fishamble Street, with performances from 730pm - 930pm in the Kevin Barry Room of the National Concert Hall. Solo Series I is a 4-CD set with individual records by pianists Isabelle O'Connell and Izumi Kimura; clarinetist Paul Roe and guitarist and bass player Simon Jermyn. Altogether 25 contemporary composers including 16 Irish composers are featured. The series is partly funded by the Music Network/Arts Council Music Recording Scheme 2009 and Diatribe Recordings. Diatribe Records curates the Solo Series in order to give a voice to contemporary artists working in the highly demanding and challenging medium of solo performance. The aim of the series is to showcase the work of leading artists from a broad spectrum of musical genres in Ireland. The Solo Series I launch at the Contemporary Music Centre will include a video installation by Simon Jermyn. This will then be followed by three half hour concerts featuring Isabelle O' Connell, Paul Roe and Izumi Kimura in the Kevin Barry Room of the National Concert Hall. Since the formation of its current organization in 2007 it has produced a series of critically acclaimed recordings, from artists working across a diverse spectrum of genres, under the umbrella of contemporary music. The Contemporary Music Centre is Ireland's national archive and resource centre for new music, supporting and developing the work of composers throughout the Republic and Northern Ireland. It is used on a national and international basis by performers, composers, promoters and members of the public interested in finding out more about music in Ireland. This co-production with Diatribe records is a Pilot Project for the Centre in the commercial CD sector.
