For Immediate ReleaseThe Contemporary Music Centre's New Music Salon Series 200922 October 2009 It's that time of year again when composers, performers and audiences come out in strength to experience the very best in contemporary Irish music. The CMC salon series offers an opportunity to listen and discuss, question and give feedback and in its sixth new music salon series CMC has organised an exciting line-up for Autumn 2009. This year the series begins in the National Concert Hall with the Spatial Music Collective on Thursday 5 November at 6.00pm. The series then continues in the Goethe Institut on Merrion Square. Firstly with Kevin Hanafin (saxophone) and guest Redmond O'Toole (Brahms guitar) on 12 November and concluding with the Cashell Trio (violin, cello and piano) on 19 November 2009. The series is designed to introduce the newcomer to contemporary music as well as capture the interest of those already familiar with it. Each performance takes place in an informal atmosphere and all events are free. "We are delighted with the eclectic line-up of this year's salon series. It reflects the wide diversity within contemporary music and offers the newcomer a great introduction as well as appealing to the more experienced listener" says Karen Hennessy, Promotion Manager, The Contemporary Music Centre. The Spatial Music Collective is a group of ten composers with a shared interest in the musical use of space. In this salon which will feature works by Enda Bates, Jonathan Nangle and Linda Buckley they will also talk about spatial music and what it means to them. Kevin Hanafin is a regular performer with the RTÉ Concert and National Symphony orchestras, and is also a member of the Crash Ensemble and Riverdance as well as a keen educator. The Cashell siblings have won much praise for their solo performances and as well as continuing to pursue their solo careers they have come together as the Cashell Trio to much critical acclaim. The Contemporary Music Centre is Ireland's national library and promotional body for new music. The Centre is supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. For the salon series the Centre acknowledges the support of the National Concert Hall and Goethe Institut in making the venues available. Although all events in the salon series are free space is limited so booking is advised. To book please telephone 01 673 1922 or email info@cmc.ie.
