Music for Midsummer

Celebrating Summer, Solstice and Song the Contemporary Music Centre (CMC) presents an evening of music, conversation and refreshments on Saturday 20 June as part of Midsummer in Temple Bar, 20 - 21 June 2009.

As well as playing and discussing contemporary Irish works from the library collection inspired by Midsummer, mezzo-soprano Laura Murphy will perform a number of songs by Irish composers.

Laura is a first year undergraduate student studying for her BA in Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. She has been very active over the last number of years winning many competitions and accepting singing invitations. At the recent ESB Feis Ceoil competition 2009 Laura won the Mezzo-Soprano competition, the Vincent O'Brien Cup, the Denis O'Sullivan Medal and the Marchant Cup (for duet).

Music for Midsummer at the Contemporary Music Centre takes place from 6pm - 730pm on 20 June 2009 in the CMC library. Admission is free but booking is advised. Midsummer festival goers can continue their celebrations after the event with fire entertainment in Meeting House Square at 9pm. www.templebar.ie
