Continuing the Contemporary Music Centre's New Music Salon Series 2008

6 November 2008

It's that time of year again when composers and performers come out in strength to bring you the very best in contemporary Irish music. The Contemporary Music Centre is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its New Music Salon Series with a fresh line-up for Autumn 2008.

The third and final performance in the series takes place on Wednesday 26 November 2008, at 6.30pm at the Goethe Institut, Dublin, with a performance by members of Ensemble ICC. Rachel Factor (harpsichord) and Enda Collins (horn) will perform four new works by composers from the Irish Composers' Collective.

The Salon Series is designed to introduce the newcomer to contemporary music as well as capture the interest of those already familiar with it. Each performance takes place in an informal atmosphere in which the composers and performers invite questions and feedback from the audience.

'We're delighted with the positive response the series has received so far this year,' says Aoife FitzPatrick, Promotion Officer at the Contemporary Music Centre. 'Each of the performances has prompted some really interesting and lively discussion, and we're looking forward to that again with the performance by Ensemble ICC.'

Ensemble ICC is the performance wing of the Irish Composers' Collective (ICC). The ICC is a democratic organisation designed to support composers at the early stages of their careers, and Ensemble ICC is the outlet through which their music is performed. Their inaugural performance took place in September 2008 of which Michael Dervan of the Irish Times wrote, '…the group's progress will be watched with great interest.' The series began on 15 October 2008 with a performance by Irish soprano Sylvia O'Brien accompanied by composer Seóirse Bodley on the piano, and continued with a piano recital by Mary Dullea on 5 November.

The Contemporary Music Centre is Ireland's national library and promotional body for new music. The Centre is supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. For the Salon Series the Centre acknowledges the support of the Goethe Institut in making the venue available.

All events in the Salon Series are free. However, as space is limited booking is advised. To book please telephone 01 673 1922 or email info@cmc.ie.
